From the Longbox – Mouse Guard Fall 1152

What do you do when God taps you to live the life of one of the tiniest mammals on Earth? Well you burrow underground and into trees. You stay out of sight of the biggest baddies. And you train an elite group of your fellow mice to be tiny little fury Jedi’s. Enter the Guard Mice. Click him for more…

Week of 10/14/09 – Hector Plasm Totentatz

With Halloween right around the corner I just had to pick my boy Hector Plasm for the panel of the week. Hector is part of an ancient cult that wanders the earth righting paranormal wrongs. Imagine Knight Rider, Kung Fu, or Quantum Leap but with a paranormal slant. Hector’s got style, even though he’s sorta Goth. Not his fault though, he was kinda born into it. Click Hector for more…

From the Longbox – Black Summer #4

We get it. Super powers make the government, any government, very nervous. Sooner or later an elected official is going to send National Guard and tanks down your block to kick your head in. Here’s what happens when you point a battalion at The Seven Guns (or what’s left of them). Click the carnage for more…

Week of 10/7/09 – Haunt #1

Filthy, fallen, Catholic priest? Standard-issue, generic, black-ops guy? Two great tastes that taste great together. When said black-ops guy is killed in action his ghost haunts his priest brother. When his priest brother finds himself in trouble black-ops guy possesses him and turns him into Haunt the vaugely Venom-ish super… thing. Click the picture for more…

From the Longbox – Wildcats v3.0 #4

Let’s say you’ve got a nearly unstoppable, but sorta dumb, super powered FBI agent. Where do you keep him? Why, with a cover family of other FBI agents in suburbia of course. Meet the youngest daughter of the “Nuclear Family”. She’s a pistol, mmm-hmm. Also pictured here is her Mom. This whole family is not to be trifled with. Click the picture to see more…

Week of 9/30/09 – Punisher Annual #1

There are few things to note here. One, the Punisher is such a bad-ass that the Hood had to resurrect a dozen super criminals to take him down. Two, Letha here is only one half of a female super wrestling team! And three, yes, those are pumpkin bombs, boomerangs, and an Iron Man gauntlet strapped to Frank’s costume. Click the picture for more…

From the Longbox – Cybernary 2.0 #6

Meet Yumiko Gamorra. Otherwise known as Cybernary 2.0. Yumi here is the daughter Kaizen Gamorra and heir to the island nation of Gamorra. She is actually a cross species of cyborg and mecha-jin, a race of robot ninjas. Here she is finally coming into her own as the rightful heir and is not happy with what has been going down in her absence. “Has no wrath” indeed. Click her for more…

Week of 9/23/09 – Old Man Logan #1

At this point “Old Man” Logan has got to be what, 200 years old? Here a grey-bearded Wolverine is dicing up the Hulk Gang. That’s right, in the future Bruce has a bunch of babies with his first cousin, She-Hulk. I just don’t buy that, c’mon she was a lawyer for Pete’s sake. Click the picture for more…

From the Longbox – Secret War #3

Marvel’s Ultimate Alliance 2 dropped this week and the opening levels of the game rehash the events of 2004’s Secret War series. In this Secret War Nick Fury takes a covert team of super heroes to Latveria to take down a government that was sponsoring terrorist activity in the states. The secret bit was that Fury did it without the sanction of the US government. Things go poorly. Even after fury issues them all ‘covert’ uniforms that were super badass. The whole series was painted by the very talented Gabrielle Dell’Otto. Click the picture for more…

Week of 9/16/09 – Wednesday Comics #11

Finally, Wonder Woman breaks free of her tiny-paneled prison and starts smashing stuff. When I heard that DC comics was going to put out a giant tabloid book, ‘Wednesday Comics’, that unfolded to huge newspaper page sized issues I was really pumped. This is Wonder Woman drawn by Ben Caldwell. Click the picture for more…

Top 5 Motorcycles in Comics

Here it is, the completely unofficial list of the Top 5 motorcycles to ever grace the pages of comics. From the depths of Hell to the concrete canyons of a future Tokyo sometimes you really need two wheels to get the job done. Check out the full list by clicking on the picture…

Week of 9/9/09 – Kick-Ass #7

Meet David Lizewski. David is a typical high school geek who reads too many comics and decides to become a real-life superhero. So he bought a wetsuit for a costume and did some push ups and went out on patrol. After making a bit of a name for himself he was captured and then this happened (see picture). I love this book. Click the picture for more…

From the Longbox – Conan #0

Carey Nord’s rendition of Conan the Cimmerian and the world that he inhabits is one of a kind. It can be reminiscent of Frazetta’s oil painting style. However, it is the dynamic swordplay and barbarian fighting that made me pick up this title every month. He gave me what I wanted from the bronzed Crom-worshipper: enemies getting cut in half. Limbs lost. Heads rolling all over the place. Conan, yeah. Click the picture for more…

Week of 9/2/2009 – Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #2

Ok, this is a dream sequence. As one of the handful of Ultimate characters to survive The Ultimatum Wave, Spider-Man is still having nightmares about the event 6 months later. Even if things in his life are otherwise going pretty sweet. Hot girlfriend? Check. Adored by media and the law? Check. Flexible class schedule that allows for crime fighting during study hall? Check. Click the picture for more…

From the Longbox – The Amazing Joy Buzzards #2

When you’re on tour and you’re under siege by an army of the undead or perhaps warrior robots there’s only one bassist you want on stage with you. Stevo Vargas. In addition to playing a wicked slap bass and being picto-syllabic, Stevo is a world-class race car driver and a 100% legit kung-fu fighter. As you can see in this photo, click it for more about The Amazing Joy Buzzards…

Week of 8/26/09 – Batman and Robin #3

Grant Morrison and Frank Quietly take on the Dynamic Duo in DC Comic’s “Batman and Robin” #3. Sign me up. Here the latest Bat-Toy is shown in action: the Quad-Bat. I don’t really know what Batman needs a friggin huge ATV for except for the obvious ease with which he can now terrorize bound henchmen (see picture). I mean didn’t he just get a brand new FLYING Batmobile? Click the picture for more…

From the Longbox – Loki #2

In 2007 a Thor mini-series called ‘Loki’ hit the stands in four parts. The story by Rob Rodi is largely forgettable. Loki tricks some folks and takes over Asgard while imprisoning his father Odin and half brother Thor. Get this, Thor breaks out and ruins everything. I know. Click the picture to read more…

Week of 8/19/09 – Daredevil #500

For my first Panel of the Week (POTW) I’m going to go to one of my all time favorite Marvel characters, Daredevil. It just so happens that this is a panel from Daredevil #500, a historic issue if only in number. Here we see ol’ Horn Head kicking Lady Bullseye in the face. Click the picture to read more…
