Kick-Ass #7

Meet David Lizewski. David is a typical high school geek who reads too many comics and decides to become a real-life superhero. So he bought a wetsuit for a costume and did some push ups and went out on patrol. The first time he confronted some thugs he was beaten, stabbed, and hit by a car. Welcome to the world of the urban vigilante, kid. After recovering and making a bit of a name for himself he was captured again and then this happened (see picture). I love this book.

Writing this often delayed masterpiece is none other than Mark Millar, the man behind such gems as Chosen and Wanted. One question I always have about your standard vigilante is how do you find crimes to fight? I’ve been living in New York City for almost ten years and I’ve never really seen a crime, violent or otherwise. But, then maybe I don’t go looking for it in the right places. Kick-Ass is the story of a 16 year old white-boy with zero combat training trying to fight crime. Millar just nails it.

Manning the pencil on this Mavel Comics ‘Icon’ series is industry heavyweight John Romita, Jr. After his run on Spider-Man where Peter Parker gets the snot knocked out of him for DAYS on end by Morlun I guess Romita, Jr. is the man to call if you want your main character brutalized.

The first six issues should be available in trade paperback by around Christmas ‘09. Also keep an eye out for Kick-Ass the feature film, Kick-Ass Trailer.
