Week of 10/14/09 – Hector Plasm Totentatz
October 15th, 2009
With Halloween right around the corner I just had to pick my boy Hector Plasm for the panel of the week. Hector is part of an ancient cult that wanders the earth righting paranormal wrongs. Imagine Knight Rider, Kung Fu, or Quantum Leap but with a paranormal slant. Hector’s got style, even though he’s sorta Goth. Not his fault though, he was kinda born into it.
My first exposure to the writing of Benito Cereno and the clean, heavy, lines of Nate Bellegarde was in the last few pages of the odd Invincible book. They would do parodies of the Image universe alongside pirate jokes and I absolutely loved it. Sometimes we would get treated to a Hector Plasm story and when the first Hector one shot came out a couple years ago I treasured it. As I will treasure this volume. I simply love this character and if these creators are up to the job I don’t know what’s stopping Image from green lighting an ongoing.
I’m not done with Bellegarde.
He also did a run on ‘Brit’ that was kind of a stupid story but as usual I adored the art. It’s been sewn up into a trade paperback if you’re interested. I don’t know. I think I’m also going to have to take that a fore mentioned parody of the Invincible Universe and tack it together into some kind of wallpaper. Oh yeah.
Here’s a couple more panels from Hector Plasm Totentatz:

Honorable Mentions:
I should have been doing this all along but here are a couple of panels that were outstanding in their own right this week.
Enders Game: Command School #2
‘The Game’ in battle school is what it all comes down to. It’s zero G lazer tag. And Pasqual Ferry just nails it.

Spider-Man Sketchbook
On the way out of Midtown Comics there’s always a small stack of freebies. This week there was a free Spidey sketchbook with The Man, Adi Granov, doing the cover.

I was going to tell you about this…I should’ve known it would not escape your knowledge!
Not sure if you’ve seen this article yet, but it’s a pretty good interview with Card:

As much as I’ve read and loved most of the Ender books, especially Game and Shadow, I’m pretty sure I have some idealogical issues with Card. For a guy that writes about life on other planets he has some pretty narrow views on the nature of God.
Eh, just get a good director for Ender’s Game and all is forgiven.
