Week of 8/26/09 – Batman and Robin #3

August 27th, 2009

Grant Morrison and Frank Quietly take on the Dynamic Duo in DC Comic’s “Batman and Robin” #3. Sign me up. Here the latest Bat-Toy is shown in action: the Quad-Bat. I don’t really know what Batman needs a friggin huge ATV for except for the obvious ease with which he can now terrorize bound henchmen (see picture). I mean didn’t he just get a brand new FLYING Batmobile?

As the decade of the 2000’s draws closer to its end are we seeing some backlash at decompressed story lines? Is RE-compression the new black? The mission statement for Batman and Robin allegedly is to keep arcs to just a few comics (issues). Morrison takes Dick Grayson as Batman and Damian Wayne as Robin and kicks off their new partnership together with an investigation into the Pyg. Not exactly breath-taking, but not everything can be a Crisis.

I don’t read too many DC comics these days but I generally like what Morrison thinks up and I absolutely love anything Quitely does. I was first exposed to Quitely in the pages of The Authority and then later on in his amazing run in The New Xmen. Then, of course, there’s JLA: Earth 2 which is no joke. More recently he did the art for All Star Superman which no one, anywhere, has anything bad to say about and neither do I.
