From the Longbox – The Amazing Joy Buzzards #2
When you’re on tour and you’re under siege by an army of the undead or perhaps warrior robots there’s only one bassist you want on stage with you. Stevo Vargas. In addition to playing a wicked slap bass and being picto-syllabic, Stevo is a world-class race car driver and a 100% legit kung-fu fighter. As you can see in this photo.
The Amazing Joy Buzzards is an Image Comics title written by Mark Andrew Smith with art by Dan Hipp. If Josie and the Pussycats were dudes topped off with kick-ass they would be the Buzzards. Throw in a magical amulet that can summon the mystical Mexican wrestler guardian El Campeon and you have one very fun and irreverent comic that’s difficult to compare.
I would like to see the boys from the Buzzards show up in some other Image titles. Every third issue of Invincible or Brit has half the Image universe involved in a team-up already. If I can see Tech Jacket or the boys from Capes all the time why not Stevo and the gang. El Campeon should be jumping off the top rope more often.
Volumes 1 and 2 are both available in trade paperback.
